The modern web-based One Outlook client from Microsoft has been in production for well over a year. The client, in fact, emerged last year but was unreachable to anybody outside the firm until recently. The app looks to be functional for work and education accounts as of this morning, allowing us to get our first glimpse at Microsoft’s new Outlook email client.
The new One Outlook app is very comparable to the Outlook Web experience, which you can use right now at Outlook.com. There are a few new features that are only available in this client, such as the option to change the top ribbon to a more conventional Outlook layout. Unfortunately, the program does not yet allow personal email accounts, but we expect this to be enabled once Microsoft formally announces the client. The client’s only other visible modification is that Microsoft has placed window settings into the Outlook header to make it seem more organic to the OS. Like the regular Outlook desktop client, composing a message or adding an event to the calendar opens a new window.
The New One Outlook Is Not Very Different
In January 2021, Windows Central claimed that Microsoft hoped to replace the built-in Mail & Calendar applications on Windows 10 and 11 with this client. It’s too early for that since many locations label the software as “preview” or “beta.” Microsoft plans to release this software for macOS and Linux in the future. After all, it’s essentially a web application.
Although Microsoft has yet to declare when One Outlook will be available to the general public, this leak suggests that we may not have to wait long. While no official launch date has been announced, initial conjecture suggested that the app would be accessible to Windows Insiders in April 2022 and afterward get ready for a wide release in Q3 of this year, so things look to be on track.
