Parler, the controversial social network, is scheduled to come back on iOS platforms from the week starting on 26th April. Early during the day on 19th April, App Store from Apple re-accepted the app.
Still Not Smooth Sailing For Parler
However, the app for iOS will be blocking some of the content that is available for its versions for Android and the web. Apparently, this compromise has been enough to satisfy the developer guidelines of Apple.
The news came as an announcement in a press conference held by Parler. Mark Meckler, the interim CEO, stated that Parler had worked on making systems that detect speech that is unlawful better. It will also let users filter out content that they deem undesirable. All of these will be done while maintaining the company’s strict prohibition on moderation of content on the basis of viewpoint.
Apple accepted Parler back following a ban that lasted for months which it imposed after lawmakers put pressure on it. The action comes two days until a hearing is going to be held regarding the policies of the Apple App Store. Apple stated that they had held substantial conversations with the social network which resulted in these proposed changes which would satisfy the content policy of Apple.
Parler advertises itself as the Facebook and Twitter alternative that has more relaxed moderation. As per the company’s press release, the changes include filtering various content for the iOS version. It also assured that while the version on the App Store will prohibit the posts, they will be available to be seen on the other versions of the app. For now, there have been no clarifications as to the prohibited kind of content, but Apple terms them “objectionable” material.
The app was banned by Amazon, Google, and Apple following the 6th January US Capitol attacks.
