Production of iPhones in India Set to Double This Year Amid Ongoing Diversification Efforts

The production of iPhones manufactured in India is projected to more than double this year, according to a local report, as Apple aims to further lessen its reliance on China.

Prominent iPhone assembler Foxconn is reportedly conducting tests to ensure it can increase production while adhering to Apple’s stringent quality requirements at its new iPhone manufacturing facility in India.

Made in India iPhones

While the majority of the world’s iPhones are manufactured in China, Apple has been working for several years to make India its second-largest manufacturing hub.

Apple has steadily increased production from solely the iPhone SE to include the newest flagship models. Previous reports indicate that Apple has set a target to have 25% of its iPhones produced in India by 2027.

The Indian government has been facilitating this increase through various tax incentives on imported components as part of the Made in India initiative, while the Chinese government has been accused of intentionally undermining these efforts.

Foxconn Doubling iPhone Production in India

According to India’s Economic Times, Foxconn has answered Apple’s call to significantly enhance iPhone production in the nation by establishing a new facility in Bengaluru.

Foxconn intends to produce between 25-30 million iPhones at its Indian facilities this year, which is more than double the quantity manufactured last year […] stated sources familiar with the situation.

“Last year, the company assembled approximately 12 million iPhones in India,” mentioned one insider. “However, with their Bengaluru plant developing rapidly, they have raised their ambitions substantially, aligning with Apple’s strategy to strengthen their foothold in India.”

The assembler reportedly commenced limited trials three or four months ago and is now concentrating on ensuring that quality standards are upheld as the plant scales up production.

Analysts indicate that this projection aligns with their estimates and suggests that the Cupertino company is on track to achieve the goal of producing 25% of its iPhones in India by next year.
