Recently one mobile carrier has allowed everyone in possession of the phone number of their customer access to their private information. The name of the carrier is Q Link Wireless. They have claimed of possessing more than 2 million customers since 2019.
This personal information that has been given access to will include the customers’ name, phone number, address, and call and text history.
Personal Data Access By Q Link Wireless
Q Link Wireless has been noted that this carrier along with their subsidiary named, Hello Mobile, usually does not ask for any identification information or password from the users before logging in with the help of any phone number.
The reviews on Q Link Wireless suggest that the security practices are quite poor to say mildly as seen back in the month of December 2020. This leaves the company with plenty of room for improvement. Even though it is not evident as to when the identification-less log-in process actually started, there are updates that took place almost 2 years back. These updates indicate a login system that was updated.
The carrier now has resolved this problem. Prior to this change, Ars could see yet not makes changes to the majority of the information of the customers on Hello Mobile. These customers had volunteered to register their phone numbers and other private details through which they could be contacted.
The most dangerous information was the account number of the customers. Although the account details were not freely visible, several of the personal details could be seen including the call and text history.
Although sources could not find any evidence of exploitation of the information, access is a worrying concern.
