Qualcomm’ Smart Viewer Allows One To Present Virtual Screens On Walls

Qualcomm, the famous chip maker, is now introducing a new design for reference for their AR glasses. The AR glasses or Augmented Reality spectacles can be connected to a mobile device or PC through the USB-C. They are calling it a smart viewing. And the glasses are known as XR1 Smart Viewer. The entire system is built to look like sunglasses or something close to it, but with wires to be attached. The Qualcomm smart viewer will also have other features like spatial awareness as well as hand tracking.

The design of the model is aimed at a compulsory accessory. It is said to be a consumer-focused product that “must” be used with cell-phones, computers, or any other such devices, instead of just being used as another accessory on the outside. Both the screens on the glasses use OLED displays of 1920 X 1080 with a refresh rate of 90Hz. The display also contains an array of cameras which helps to add virtual reality to the real world.

These cameras in Qualcomm’s glasses can help in hand tracking with a new control scheme. It can also help locate a plane in the environment. This is to assist in turn the use of pinning a virtual window on a wall.  This feature can also be used for several displays of PCs at the same time. It can also be used to place a virtual device on a table and then be controlled and interacted via gestures.

But there is something that makes it less unique than other AR glasses. That is that the view is limited to just 45 degrees. Hence, it makes it similar to HoloLens2 by Microsoft.
