Today, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg confirmed that a major redesign of the MacBook Pro is set to launch in 2026. Here, we’ll explore three significant rumors surrounding this upcoming model.
OLED Display
Following its introduction in the iPad Pro in 2024, Apple is expected to incorporate OLED display technology into the MacBook Pro for the first time with this redesign in 2026. This upgrade will bring enhanced brightness, superior contrast ratios, and improved color representation to the MacBook Pro lineup.
Additionally, TheElec reports that Apple will utilize the same Tandem OLED technology used in the iPad Pro:
The OLED MacBook Air is likely to feature a standard single-stack display, in contrast to the advanced Two-Stack Tandem displays anticipated for the MacBook Pro.
Single-stack displays consist of one layer each of red, green, and blue, whereas Two-Stack Tandem OLED incorporates an additional RGB layer. Stacking two layers enhances both the screen brightness and its longevity.
While transitioning to OLED, Apple might eliminate the notch in favor of a smaller cutout for the camera. This information, sourced from Omdia, describes it as a “rounded corner + hole cut.”
The report does not clarify whether this will be a singular hole punch or similar to the Dynamic Island feature on the iPhone. Regardless, the MacBook Pro’s display is expected to feature a less pronounced cutout with the upcoming redesign.
Thinner Design
As reported by Bloomberg, the 2026 MacBook Pro is set to adopt a new, thinner design. However, there are few details available, making it uncertain whether the overall chassis will undergo a significant change:
While Apple continues to improve the product with new chips and internal upgrades, a true overhaul of the MacBook Pro won’t occur until 2026. Initially, the company intended to release this new version in 2025, featuring a slimmer design and sharper OLED screens, but delays related to the display technology have pushed this back.
Advanced M6 Chip
Apple will also unveil the M6 series of chips with this redesigned MacBook Pro. The M6 is anticipated to be the first generation of Apple Silicon utilizing TSMC’s 2nm technology, alongside the A20 chip for the iPhone.
Typically, we can expect M6, M6 Pro, and M6 Max variations of the MacBook Pro in both 14-inch and 16-inch dimensions. Leveraging this new manufacturing process should result in significant improvements in performance and efficiency.
