Scheduled Threads Posts Now Accessible to Everyone; Markup for Select Users

Scheduled Threads posts are now accessible to everyone, following last month’s limited rollout to a select group of users. Moreover, individuals in specific regions can now highlight and annotate portions of others’ posts when sharing them.

The announcement came from Instagram head Adam Mosseri.

“Today marks some updates for Threads to assist with managing your activity on the platform: You can now schedule your posts, and metrics for individual posts are being introduced in Insights.

We are also implementing a ‘markup’ feature for resharing posts, allowing you to add your own creative touch, initially available in a few countries, with more regions to follow.”

Most reactions to the post were lukewarm, with some expressing concerns about the markup feature.

“Markup means people can modify and draw over your artwork? No thanks. Art theft is already a significant issue.”

“The ability to mark up posts seems detrimental to artists and other creators.”

“Numerous artists struggle with their work being stolen or copied. If Meta proceeds with this, it’s unacceptable.”

However, Engadget has reported that users will have the option to opt out.

According to a Threads spokesperson, the feature will operate similarly to quote posts, wherein the original user is notified each time someone decides to mark up their post. Additionally, users can disable markups on their own posts through the “who can reply and quote” setting.

Others noted that these updates do not align with user requests.

“Just a reminder that nobody asked for this; a simple search would reveal exactly what users desire from the platform.”

“These features are not aligned with what most users sought. Who needs scheduled posts? We asked for chronological feeds, improved algorithms, and a reduction in bot activity, yet we still lack these essentials while scheduling is prioritized.”

“What about implementing passkeys? When can we expect those?”

Additional commentary arose regarding Meta’s choice to halt fact-checking and permit hate speech on their platforms.

“Will we ever have the option to schedule fact-checking?”

“Now you can easily schedule hate messages towards any LGBTQ+ individual using Threads!”

“What about modifying Threads so that individuals like me, who identify as gay, aren’t subjected to being labeled ‘mentally ill’?”
