The recently released Nielsen streaming charts, covering the week of January 13th, reveal that *Severance* may have achieved record viewership for an Apple drama. This marks the first occasion Nielsen has shared data since the premiere of the second season of *Severance*.
Although it debuted on the Friday within that week, *Severance* impressively made it to number four on the top 10 original series chart, with nearly 600 million minutes watched.
Given that Apple TV+ has a significantly smaller audience compared to some competitors, many of its productions fail to make it onto the Nielsen charts. However, *Severance* stands out as a notable success, having attracted a substantial viewership while earning favorable reviews from critics.
The previous instance of any Apple show reaching this high on the Nielsen chart was during the third season of *Ted Lasso*, and if the current trend persists, there is a likelihood *Severance* could climb even higher next week when Nielsen releases data for January 20 to January 26. This report will include viewership data for a full week following the premiere of *Severance*’s second season.
Interestingly, Apple shows also made a second appearance on the Nielsen chart for the week of January 13th. In addition to *Severance*, *Silo* landed at the number ten spot, garnering 400 million minutes viewed. Notably, this may be the first time Apple has featured two different titles in the top ten originals list.
It is important to note that Nielsen’s streaming charts reflect viewership only in the United States, and streaming platforms—including Apple—often question their accuracy. However, since Apple does not disclose viewing figures, this is the most reliable information available.
*Severance* is currently airing its second season with new episodes released every Friday until March 21. A third season is reportedly in the works but has yet to receive official approval from Apple.
