What began as a planetarium has evolved, and now Theater for visionOS stands out as the top Plex video player on the Apple Vision Pro. This transformation is due to a range of new functionalities introduced in the latest 2.1 update.
Plex playback is still a relatively new feature following the 2.0 upgrade. I highlighted this during the introduction of Theater 2:
Theater 2 previously supported YouTube streaming. Now, it can also play content directly from your Plex Media Server. This is a significant advantage over the non-existent visionOS Plex app.
While the Plex iPad app on AVP isn’t particularly formidable, the developers of Theater have significantly improved their Plex capabilities. Adam Lisagor, known from Sandwich, shares:

With 2FA support now integrated, users can stream from local Plex servers, which unlocks streaming capabilities for many. Additionally, remote server access allows friends to share libraries.
Theater has officially become my favorite app for Apple Vision Pro.
Theater 2.1 is now available on the visionOS App Store. The app is free to download and explore. Plex support requires a $4 in-app purchase for full functionality. If you are a Plex user, this unlock is easily worth $40 on its own.
