This iPhone 16 Model Sees Significant Sales Increase, While One Fan Favorite Declines

Next week, Apple will release its quarterly earnings, offering an official overview of the iPhone 16 sales during the holiday season. However, a new report is already shedding light on what we can expect regarding the sales distribution among various iPhone 16 models.

CIRP Report Highlights Growing and Declining iPhone 16 Models

CIRP has published a new report today detailing the sales of iPhones from the previous holiday quarter.

While the report does not disclose specific sales figures, it emphasizes the proportions of different models in Apple’s lineup following the iPhone 16 launch.

As expected, the iPhone 16 Pro Max emerged as the most sought-after model, but a more intriguing aspect is the trends indicating growth or decline for two particular devices.

For instance, the model that experienced the highest growth this quarter was the base iPhone 16:

The base iPhone 16 ranked as the second most popular model, capturing 21% of sales. This marks a notable increase from the 15% share held by the iPhone 15 in the December 2023 quarter, returning to previous levels seen with base iPhones.

Conversely, the model that faced a decline was actually the overall best-seller:

The premium iPhone 16 Pro Max was the leading seller, making up 23% of sales, which is a decrease from the 26% share of the iPhone 15 Pro Max during the same period last year.

Summary of iPhone 16 Sales Mix

This year, Apple has indeed enhanced the base iPhone 16, making its growth quite expected. Analyzing the chart, it seems that this growth stemmed from consumers opting for the base model over the iPhone 15, as the latter saw a decline compared to the iPhone 14’s performance in 2023.

Although the Pro Max showed a slight decline, it retained its top position. However, CIRP mentions that the combined percentage of Pro Max and Pro sales is the lowest recorded in the past five December quarters.

It will be interesting to observe how the launch of the iPhone 17 lineup, including the debut of the iPhone 17 Air and an anticipated update for the iPhone SE, influences the market.
