In its current form, Precision Finding can be somewhat temperamental and primarily works under optimal conditions.
Reports from Bloomberg suggest that my desire for improvements will be fulfilled. At present, the Precision Finding capability operates at a distance of approximately 10 to 30 meters. AirTag 2 is set to feature a next-gen Ultra Wideband chip that triples Precision Finding’s range, potentially allowing it to function effectively between 30 and 90 meters. We’ve already witnessed the upgraded Ultra Wideband chip in action with the iPhone 15.
This enhancement will significantly improve usability. Right now, the simplest way to locate an item is to trigger a sound from the AirTag speaker. While this guides you in the general direction, the upgraded Precision Finding will lead directly to the exact spot.
