Threads to Introduce Option for Users to Select a Default Feed Soon

As we reported last week, Threads has started rolling out Custom Feeds globally based on user-selected topics. Meta appears to be actively listening to its users, having recently announced an option that allows individuals to set their preferred default feed.

Threads to include option for default feed selection

This news was disclosed by Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a Threads post. He indicated that the platform is currently “testing” the ability to select any feed as the default option. Users will now have the flexibility to choose not only between the For You and Following feeds but also a custom feed, allowing them to determine which content appears first when they access Threads.

“We are testing the option to select any feed — For You, Following, or a custom option — as your default. We’re also making this feature more noticeable within the app, and I’m curious to see how and if people will utilize it,” Zuckerberg shared.

As it stands, the Threads app defaults to opening in the For You feed, which showcases content suggested by algorithms. Recently, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced that Meta is revising the Threads algorithms to better prioritize posts from accounts users already follow—another request echoing throughout the Threads community.

Users can access the Following feed by swiping down on the Threads home screen, a feature that, as the title implies, displays only posts from accounts they follow. The same functionality applies to Custom Feeds; however, the app consistently reverts to the For You feed upon being closed and then reopened.

Many have noted that Meta has been actively enhancing Threads with new features recently. While the company has remained silent on specific motivations, some speculate this uptick is a response to Bluesky’s impressive growth over recent months. Although Threads continues to maintain a larger user base than Bluesky, the latter has attracted over 13 million users within the past year.

No specifics have been provided regarding which users will be the first to access these new features or when Meta intends to roll them out to everyone. Nonetheless, ensure your app is up-to-date to take advantage of the latest enhancements. The Threads application is freely available on the App Store.
