Three Major iPhone SE 4 Rumors You Might Have Overlooked

The upcoming iPhone SE may make its debut as soon as next week. It is speculated to adopt the design aesthetics of the iPhone 14, featuring USB-C, an A18 chip with integrated Apple Intelligence, among other enhancements. While you’re probably familiar with these major highlights, there are additional noteworthy rumors that might have escaped your attention, which we’ll cover today.

Could it be a new name?

One intriguing rumor swirling around the iPhone SE 4 is that it might be rebranded as the iPhone 16E.

Aligning the iPhone SE with Apple’s standard naming conventions would not only enhance clarity but also potentially allow Apple to position the new device at a slightly higher price point compared to its predecessor.

Though this speculation is primarily based on a couple of less-reliable sources, it’s something worth keeping in mind.

48MP Camera Upgrade

As reported exclusively by DMN, the iPhone SE 4 will feature a 48MP main camera sensor, identical to that found on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

This upgrade promises enhanced photo quality compared to the iPhone 14 (and earlier models), which is definitely a welcomed improvement.

Additionally, this upgrade brings one significant benefit: 2x optical zoom.

Since the introduction of the 48MP sensor with the iPhone 14 Pro, Apple has provided a feature that enables users to crop into the central 12MP of the frame, creating what they describe as an “optical quality” image. Whether you agree with that classification is subjective, but this functionality will likely be present on the iPhone SE 4.

Introducing Apple’s First Modem

In 2019, Apple acquired Intel’s modem division and has since been working on developing its own modems to reduce reliance on Qualcomm.

The new iPhone SE is expected to showcase these in-house developed modems.

While this modem may not be overly advanced—thus, why it won’t feature in the majority of the iPhone 17 lineup—it’s still an exciting development and could result in cost savings for Apple on a per-unit basis. This marks one of Apple’s most significant efforts towards integrated manufacturing since the transition to Apple Silicon on the Mac in 2020.
