Recently, Apple contributed to the relief efforts for the wildfires in Los Angeles and is now encouraging customers to join in.
Individuals located in the US can donate to the American Red Cross’s Southern California Wildfires Relief fund using the App Store or Apple Music apps.
Today, CEO Tim Cook took to Twitter to spread the message.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the ongoing devastation in LA. In addition to Apple’s contribution, we’re making it simple for you to support recovery initiatives. If you’re in the US, just open the App Store or Apple Music & click to donate and help make a difference.
The donation feature seems to function only with US Apple IDs.
Last week, Cook called the fires “heartbreaking” while announcing Apple’s donation.
The destruction from the fires in Los Angeles is truly heartbreaking. A big thank you to the brave firefighters, first responders, and everyone involved for your heroic efforts. Apple will be donating to aid the victims and recovery initiatives on the scene.
BBC News reports that the extended wildfires have claimed 25 lives, with concerns that strong winds could further complicate the situation.
Winds fueling wildfires in Los Angeles are anticipated to strengthen again on Wednesday – following the confirmation of a 25th victim from the major, week-long fire outbreak.
Forecasters have again flagged a zone of “extreme fire danger,” stressing the risk level in an area northwest of downtown.
In certain mountainous regions, winds could reach speeds of up to 70mph (113km/h), approaching hurricane strength if sustained.
The expected uptick in wind speeds threatens to spread the remaining four fires, which firefighters have made significant headway against during a few recent days of calmer conditions.
Apple’s apps allow users to donate any amount between $5 and $200, ensuring that the total sum is directed to the Red Cross.
