Tim Cook Discusses His Unconventional Retirement Plan and Daily Routine in Exclusive Interview

Recently, Apple CEO Tim Cook traveled to the UK just before Christmas to meet with King Charles III. During his visit, Cook participated in a podcast interview that has just been released—here’s what he revealed about his daily and weekly habits, unconventional retirement views, personal background, and much more.

Cook was featured on the Table Manners podcast hosted by Jessie & Lennie Ware for this insightful discussion. The episode is available for listening here on Apple Podcasts.

The conversation, spanning nearly an hour, explored a variety of topics, including Cook’s favorite foods, preferred wines, morning habits, unconventional perspective on retirement, and anecdotes from his childhood in Alabama.

Tim Cook’s views on retirement

When asked if he plans to retire, Tim Cook responded:

Absolutely, but not in the traditional sense. I can’t imagine sitting at home, doing nothing, and not being intellectually challenged or considering how to improve upon yesterday. I believe I’ll always have that inclination to work. I’ve been working since I was 11 or 12… You should be challenged and occasionally feel a bit uncomfortable… I’ll always want to be pushed.

Morning routine and email volume

When asked about his early start at 5 a.m., which had been rumored, Cook confirmed:

Yes, I usually start checking emails a bit before that. This time of day is when I have the most control. As the day progresses, things become less predictable… I cherish those quiet moments in the morning where I can focus on a few essential tasks without distractions.

In the mornings, I typically grab a coffee and some cereal… My focus during this time is mainly on responding to employees and customers.

Regarding his email volume, Cook disclosed the typical number of emails he receives daily:

Generally, it’s about 500 to 600. On days with unusual events, it can be significantly more.

Tim Cook’s fast food experience and favorite meals

Coo shared fond memories of his upbringing in Alabama, particularly about his early jobs in fast food:

I started working in fast food around 14 or 15. I began with delivering newspapers before moving on to flipping burgers… I worked at a place called Tasty Freeze, earning a mere $1.10 an hour, which at the time was legally below minimum wage.

Interestingly, despite his surname, Cook mentioned that he does not cook very often:

I don’t cook. Caffè Macs has amazing food. I have lunch there and usually take dinner home from there as well… I often choose the fish.

Additional food-related insights include:

  • His childhood favorite meal was fried chicken.
  • He has a strong preference for chocolate, especially dark varieties.
  • Cook’s favorite wine is Kistler chardonnay.
  • He enjoys dining at Ethel’s Fancy in Palo Alto.
  • He mentioned that Apple produces jam from fruit grown on trees planted at Apple Park.

In conclusion, Cook touched on the topic of Apple Intelligence and provided insights into Genmoji during his discussion.

When queried if he has created a custom Genmoji, Cook responded in a charming diplomatic manner with a London-themed remark:

I was designing one just yesterday. I adore Christmas, and London epitomizes the Christmas spirit. I envisioned what Big Ben would look like adorned with a tree in front of it.
