Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, is reportedly planning to visit Mar-a-Lago this Friday evening to have dinner with President-elect Donald Trump, as stated by The New York Times. Cook’s visit follows a series of meetings involving various tech executives at Trump’s Florida resort over the past few weeks.
According to The New York Times:
Mr. Cook and Mr. Trump are anticipated to dine together on the patio at Mar-a-Lago later this Friday, as per two sources familiar with the forthcoming meeting. The relationship between the two was notably amicable during Trump’s first term, especially in comparison to interactions Trump had with other tech leaders like Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg and Google’s Sundar Pichai, both of whom have also met with Trump in recent weeks.
This meeting will be Cook’s first encounter with Trump since the latter’s recent election. Throughout Trump’s initial term, Cook met with him several times and received positive recognition from the President, leading other tech leaders to consider adopting a similar approach during Trump’s new term.
In October, Cook had a conversation with Trump concerning Apple’s ongoing challenges in the European Union, during which Trump assured Cook that he would prevent the EU from “taking advantage” of American businesses if he were to be elected.
At the end of November, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg visited Mar-a-Lago for a meeting with Trump. Additionally, Google CEO Sundar Pichai met with Trump on Thursday, and Trump has announced plans to meet with Amazon’s Jeff Bezos next week. Over the past few months, Trump and Elon Musk have been frequently seen together.
Apart from private dinners with Trump, tech companies are also contributing to Trump’s inauguration fund, with both Meta and Amazon pledging $1 million each. OpenAI’s Sam Altman is also contributing $1 million to the fund.
