Twitter is planning on another update to enrich its mobile app. The company is testing ways of displaying higher quality images as well as YouTube videos on its app. The support account of Twitter posted that Twitter will be testing viewing YouTube videos within the home timeline of the mobile app for iOS.
This implies that users will no longer have to exit the conversation to watch a video. Earlier, the iOS app wouldn’t preview videos from YouTube. Users would have to visit the address to watch them. This would instantly make the user exit the current conversation and into the dedicated apps.
For now, the feature will only be available in Saudi Arabia, Canada, Japan, and the US. There were no specified periods for the releases. The company adds that the technology being used is the YouTube iFrame Player API.
The Current Plans Of Twitter
Previously in this month, Twitter had also stated that they are working on improving the media experience on the app. The test on photo preview that was rolled out last week is showing a more precise glimpse of the full image. Earlier, the automatic cropping algorithm of Twitter would often leave out the focus of the image.
It also recently added the feature to allow uploading images of up to 4k quality. The settings for it can be accessed under the “Data Usage” category of the app.
The updates are a part of Twitter’s rebranding as a content-creator-friendly platform. It also included a new subscription named “Super Follow” which would allow users to create exclusive content. However, to do so, the company must make sharing an integrated part of the app.
The recent updates will likely be just the beginning of the process, as the year rolls on.
