Uber Enhances Live Activity Features on Apple Watch

With the introduction of watchOS 11, Apple has extended Live Activities from the iPhone to its Apple Watch, allowing users to receive real-time updates directly from the Smart Stack. While watchOS can duplicate Live Activities from the iPhone, Uber has significantly improved its Live Activity feature specifically for the Apple Watch.

Updated Live Activity for Uber on Apple Watch

Users have noted that the Uber app’s Live Activity has been refined with a dedicated interface for the Apple Watch. Previously, during an Uber ride, Live Activity displayed only the Uber logo and the estimated time of arrival (ETA), merely replicating the compact view shown on the iPhone’s Dynamic Island.

With the recent update, Uber’s Live Activity on the Apple Watch introduces an icon featuring a circular progress bar, allowing users to monitor their ride in real-time. The ETA messaging has also been enhanced to clearly state “Dropoff at” instead of simply presenting the estimated time. Furthermore, when the driver is close, Uber’s Live Activity now displays an image of the vehicle alongside the license plate number.

Although this adjustment may seem minor, it significantly enhances the experience of tracking an Uber ride for Apple Watch users, especially following the discontinuation of Uber’s standalone Apple Watch app in 2022.

As previously mentioned, Live Activities are accessible in the Smart Stack on the Apple Watch, which can be viewed by rotating the Digital Crown upwards. The system will automatically bring up the Smart Stack with Live Activity on top whenever there’s a new status update. Developers have the option to create tailored Live Activities for the Apple Watch even if they don’t have a dedicated watchOS app.

For those using Uber, ensure that you have the latest version of the app on your iPhone to make use of the new features. It’s important to note that watchOS 11 is compatible with the Apple Watch Series 6 and later models.
