Upcoming Vision Pro Enhancements Could Drive Major Success in 2025

Upcoming Vision Pro Enhancements Could Drive Major Success in 2025

Chosen as the Product of the Year by DMN, Vision Pro still has significant potential to showcase as it heads into its second year. Here are three major upcoming enhancements that might pave the way for a standout 2025 for the Vision Pro.

Apple Intelligence (especially for Siri)

Siri on Vision Pro

The absence of AI features for its premier spatial computer in 2024 came as a letdown, albeit a reasonable one, as Apple focuses on catching up in the AI realm by catering to its flagship devices: iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

However, the rollout of Apple Intelligence is expected to reach Vision Pro with visionOS 3, with a pivotal focus on refining Siri.

While various AI functionalities will enhance the visionOS experience, a more robust Siri stands out as my top priority.

As a relatively new Vision Pro user, it quickly became clear that Siri plays a crucial role in spatial computing, even more so than on other Apple platforms (excluding HomePod).

Given the immense opportunities with voice-first computing on Vision Pro, the integration of ChatGPT within Siri, along with the enhancements anticipated in iOS 18.4, could significantly enhance the visionOS experience.

Robust gaming support

For several years, Apple has sought to establish itself as a serious player in the gaming industry. While the iPhone has enjoyed immense success as a gaming platform, Apple has simultaneously encouraged users—and developers—to dive deeper into gaming on the Mac, Apple TV, and beyond.

Surprisingly, though, the Vision Pro launched with a rather muted gaming narrative. Apple Arcade provides a selection of spatial games, and additional titles can be found in the App Store. However, the absence of supported VR game controllers suggests that Apple does not regard visionOS as a gaming-centric platform.

Fortunately, it appears that support for PlayStation VR2 controllers is on the horizon, which may just be the beginning of Apple’s gaming strategy.

In the coming year, Apple must demonstrate that gaming is a priority for the Vision Pro. If not, premium VR titles will likely remain exclusive to rival platforms.

Much more Apple Immersive Video

Immersive Video coming to Vision Pro

Immersive Video is undeniably one of the standout features of Vision Pro, regarded as a ‘killer app.’ The hurdle, however, has been that the demand for such content has greatly exceeded the current supply.

As 2024 concluded, Apple began to ramp up its Immersive Video offerings, and this trend is expected to continue into 2025, fueled by significant upcoming content plans.

The array of diverse Immersive Video releases in 2024 highlights Apple’s extensive experimentation with this innovative medium, showcasing its vast potential moving forward.

Whether the Vision Pro can evolve into a genuine productivity platform remains uncertain. Nonetheless, it is evident that Immersive Video can position the Vision Pro as an exceptional entertainment device.

Vision Pro’s upcoming upgrades: a summary

If Apple can successfully address all three areas mentioned above, Vision Pro is likely to become significantly more appealing to a broader audience. Factors like price, weight, and the app ecosystem also matter. However, the more Apple can enhance visionOS into a comprehensive computing platform with robust gaming and video features, the brighter the future for Vision Pro will become.
