As soon as AirTags hit the market, I jumped at the chance to get my hands on eight of them; I use them for five bags, my keys, a videography kit, and even my bicycle. During travels, I’ve also found ways to share them with friends, and iOS 18.2 has made this process even more seamless.
I’ve admitted before that I’m a collector of bags, so my first step was to place an AirTag in each of my primary bags, where they now reside almost permanently…
This setup means any time I take out a bag, it’s equipped with tracking capabilities.
For bag options I don’t use as often, I simply borrow an AirTag to safeguard whichever bag is in use that day.
I’ve also shared a few AirTags with my partner or friends during travel, enabling me to track their bags alongside mine. This not only offers peace of mind if luggage gets lost, but I appreciate checking my Find My app upon boarding to confirm that all our checked bags are on the plane.
Before, only I could track the tags using my app, but the new AirTag sharing feature in iOS 18.2 enhances this capability for social travel. I can easily send the link for the tags in my companions’ bags, allowing them to track their items too.
I also share access to the AirTags in my bags, which gives us added redundancy. In a worst-case scenario where someone might snatch both my phone and my cabin luggage—containing my other Apple devices—my travel companion can immediately monitor my belongings using their phone.
The Share Item Location feature is a major improvement for AirTags when traveling with family or friends, allowing everyone in your group to stay informed about all the bags.
