WhatsApp Introduces Event Scheduling Feature for Private Chats

WhatsApp is currently rolling out a feature that allows users to organize events from group chats. In the near future, this capability will be extended to private chats, offering users enhanced flexibility in scheduling and managing their appointments.

WhatsApp to enhance scheduling event functionality

According to WABetaInfo, the newest beta version of WhatsApp has introduced the ability to create events from private chats, “expanding from its earlier availability in group chats.” This feature, already present for group chats, enables users to “organize meetings, set reminders, and coordinate appointments directly within the chats.” Users also have the option to designate locations or include links for audio and video calls.

The strategy, naturally, is to encourage users to prefer WhatsApp over traditional calendar applications for managing meetings and appointments. It’s certainly more convenient when you can discuss an event while chatting with someone.

Interestingly, this development comes in the wake of rumors concerning Apple’s intention to launch a new app specifically for sending invitations to physical events. Initially reported by DMN and confirmed by Bloomberg, this app aims to provide a fresh way for iPhone and iPad users to invite others to gatherings and events. An announcement regarding this new app is anticipated in the coming days.

Returning to WhatsApp, Meta is also exploring the possibility of enabling users to open View Once media on connected devices, which is particularly beneficial for individuals using WhatsApp across multiple devices. Currently, View Once media (which disappears after being viewed) is only accessible on the primary device where WhatsApp is registered.

As of now, there is no official timeline for when these new features will be made available to the public. WhatsApp can be downloaded for free from the App Store; however, the beta version is only accessible to select users through TestFlight.
