There was a time when Xiaomi posted sarcastic comments regarding Apple’s decision not to include a charger with its new iPhone models. But now it seems that they have a different take on the issue.
Back in October, when Apple launched its new iPhone 12 models, they announced that they will not be shipping chargers along with the device, saying that it is an obvious source of e-waste. At that time, Mi along with other smartphone companies like Samsung had a good laugh about the decision. Xiaomi even tweeted that it “didn’t leave anything out of the box”. Even Samsung reminded its users that chargers were “included with your Galaxy.”
However, now the company has reversed its opinion regarding the presence of a new wall charger with their upcoming models. Xiaomi currently thinks that discarding new chargers is a great idea.
Xiaomi CEO Confirms, No Charger With The New Mi 11
As reported by the Verge, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun confirmed this speculation with his recent post made on Saturday. The CEO remarked on the Chinese social media site Weibo, saying that “the included charger is cancelled from the box”. He started off his post with this comment, “Mi 11, pack lightly.”
He further mentioned that Xiaomi has made this decision in response to the call of technology and environmental protection. He said that many people have a lot of idle chargers at home and it doesn’t make sense to add another on top of that with every new model that they release.
Lei Jun ended his post asking for suggestions of better ways to protect the environment or alter their industrial practice. The company has confirmed that the Mi 11 series will launch in China on December 28th. However, the date of the global launch is yet to be released.
There are rumors in the market regarding a similar decision on Samsung’s part as well for the upcoming Galaxy models of 2021.
